Local Area Information
Bourg de Visa is a small, pretty village, situated in the Tarn et Garonne department, very close to the borders with the Lot et Garonne and the Lot.
There are many picturesque villages nearby, including the 'plus beaux villages' of Lauzerte and Auvillar, which are both on the famous Pilgrim Trail to Santiago de Compostela. Larger towns such as Moissac and Agen are within easy reach as are Toulouse, Cahors and Bergerac.
The area is renowned for its gastronomy, particularly duck and foie gras and alongside the more well-known Bordeaux and Cahors, there are many local producers making excellent wines to try and to buy. Plus, of course, there are also many places to choose when it comes to eating out - from small bars and bistros to Michelin star restaurants and everything in between!
Colourful local markets are held in many nearby towns and villages throughout the year and are a great place to pick up seasonal and regional specialities to try back at the gite or to take home.
In addition to Tuesday nights in Bourg de Visa, many other local villages also hold their own marché gourmande on alternative evenings throughout July and August.
The many and varied places to visit include UNESCO listed sites, chateaux, museums, lakes, beaches, grottos, vineyards and even an animal park!
If you are looking for a more active holiday, you will find canoeing, pony-trekking, water-sports, running, golf, walking and cycling available.
The above provides a snap shot of what is on offer in this part of France to keep you entertained .... although if you prefer, you can always choose to just relax by the pool!
